It’s been a long time since we have reviewed some games, but quite a while ago Kage, Hector, Eddie and I sat down and got into Happy Little Dinosaurs. We generally love all things that Unstable Games (Unstable Unicorns, Llamas Unleashed, etc) has put out, so it was an obvious choice to back this game on kickstarter. The artwork is great, like the Unstable Games are known for, so it’s nice to look at. The score sheets are adorable, with little (sad) dinosaurs and matching meeples.

In order to win, you have to be the first to reach 50 points, or be the last dinosaur standing. There are three different types of disasters: Natural, Predatory, or Emotional. You have cards to play against each other to try to make the other person take the disaster. If you get three disaster cards of the same type or three disaster cards of different types, you’re out of the game. Generally when playing cards you want a higher number card to not end up keeping that disaster, however, there are also cards that allow for adding additional points, taking away another’s points, or straight up not having to take a disaster card.
All in all this game was very fun, and we played a couple of rounds. It is a lighter filler game that we both feel would be better off with more players so there is more variety as it is more of a “take that” kind of game. It’s cute and fun. I recommend!
Kage’s Notes: This is a very quick and simple game by the creators of, and much in the same style of, Unstable Unicorns. While the gameplay is different, I would venture to say that if you like that game you will like this one. It’s definitely for the same crowd. A stylish, cute, fun filler for gamers, and a decent light game for younger gamers or those new to the hobby.
